Can Laser Hair Removal Allow Me to Quit Shaving for Good?

Can Laser Hair Removal Allow Me to Quit Shaving for Good?

Your normal daily routine probably involves taking a nice hot shower, and lathering up to shave. Whether you’re shaving your legs, armpits, or other areas of your body, it definitely takes time and maintenance. Laser hair removal is a procedure that gives you soft, silky skin without the hassle of shaving everyday.

At Marvelous Clinic and Medspa, our team are experts in many different cosmetic procedures, including laser hair removal. Dr. Mohammed Monsour is our esteemed professional who helps you decide if laser hair removal is right for you.

How does laser hair removal work?

The hair that grows on your body is made of a durable protein that’s known as keratin. At the end of each piece of hair is a follicle, which helps the hair stay in your skin. Cells that begin in the follicle divide and multiply, forming a single strand of hair.

Laser hair removal is a type of cosmetic procedure that destroys your hair follicle at the source. This prevents your hair from growing back in the area that you have treated.

Laser hair removal uses a hand-held laser to destroy the hair follicle using intense heat. The beam of the laser goes through your skin and targets the follicle, getting rid of it for good. However, due to your hair’s growing cycle, it may take several treatments to get all of the hair from one area.

Laser hair removal is a very safe procedure that can be done on many different areas of your body. Common areas that are targeted for laser hair removal include:

This type of procedure is very safe, but may have some minor side effects. These effects may include redness, swelling, and discomfort at the site of the procedure. However, this usually dissipates within a few hours.

Can you really quit shaving?

If you’re hoping to never have to shave again after hair removal, you might be slightly disappointed. Although laser hair removal does produce amazing results, it’s not necessarily a permanent fix.

The heat from the laser destroys the hair follicles, which inhibits the hair from growing back — for a period of time. There are a lot of factors that can affect the destruction of the hair follicles, including your specific growth rate and the area being targeted.

Your hair follicles go into a dormant state when you undergo laser hair removal. This means that they’ll likely grow back at some point. This could take weeks or months, depending on the area you had treated.

When your hair does eventually grow back, it’s usually finer and much lighter than it was before you had the treatment done. You can opt to come back in for more treatments to try to get rid of more of the hair when it comes back in.

While this treatment doesn’t mean you’ll get rid of all of your hair for good, it does drastically reduce the appearance of the hair in that area. You may still have to shave once every several weeks, which is much better than shaving every day.
